FOOTY COMPETITION 26/27

Best Value

There's loads of bickering about 'the most valuable' players and even more so the players that are the 'greatest waste of money'.

To settle the argument, it will never be settled, the parameters shift constantly, but I've pulled together some stats.

It was decreed that defenders and goalkeepers carry no value, as they typically do not contribute to goals, which is the all defining attribute that will define greatness, and importance in the wonderful game of footy.

And we all know now, the only measure can be goals and assists, to define a player's greatness.  No adjustments for scoring goals in a losing team, the value is the same as a goal that wins the title.   No adjustments for just scoring against the bottom three, those goals are as valuable as scoring against the big six.  No reduction in goal value for scoring from the penalty spot, we've seen even the highest rated prove it's not as straightforward as once thought.

And so, a shoot-out, quite literally, between fowards and midfielders, rated on their goals scored in the Premier League only, for their current club only, versus the amount they cost. As the League is the only thing I track for the players, although obviously ALL OTHER competitions will mean that this whole exercise is actually, worthless.   Well, depending on whose top, of course.

The maths is easy.

Goals worth 3 points, and assists worth 1 point, divided by the Purchase Price (i did think salary should be taken into account as well, but, TBH, i couldnt be bothered to look it up!!)

Where there was no purchase price, a notional 5 Mill has been used.

Just as a bench mark, the greatest in the Premier League era for a single club, Harry Kane on 137 points & the player with the most Premier League goals, Alan Shearer, are in there for everyone to target, and to prove 'Arry wins this hands down.   Some surprising players in the mix, that get over-looked when 'debating' this topic.   Although I'm sure we can tweak the guidelines to eliminate them from any meaningful conclusions.
