The 'Perpetual' League Table & The XG Premier League Table
Fair to say - I like this table.
So often the media get carried away with the start to a season and rave about how great a team are, or how bad they are - without paying any attention to how they've played and how the results in the games they've played 'compare' to last season
This does that.
Every team starts from where they finished last time out, and as each game is played, the result from it, replaces the result from the same game last season.
Therefore, we have a 'Perpetual Table' which shows how the League would finish, if the last game that just ended, was the end of the season.
It needs one small adjustment in relation to the relegated and promoted clubs.
I don't think you can just replace Leicester with Leeds, Ipswich with Burnley and Southampton with Sunderland. I think it's fairer to compare the results each team had against those three clubs last season, and replace the closest result/score with this seasons games. Perhaps a couple of examples will clarify the thoughts in my head.
This season, Spurs play Burnley in the opening round of fixtures, Sunderland play West Ham.
Last Season Spurs (famously in this group) lost at home to Leicester and Ipswich 1-2, but beat Southampton 3-1. Last season West Ham won 1-0 at Southampton and 3-1 at Ipswich, but lost 3-1 at Leicester.
So if both win or lose, then there will be no loss/gain against last season, but the results will be replaced by the scores in the opening weekend, then when the next game against a promoted team comes along, it will be compared against the TWO remaining fixtures. BTW, a draw for both Spurs and West Ham in the first round of fixtures WILL result in a point gained!!!!
The Three relegated teams points won't change in the table, and I won't add in the promoted teams.
I expect Arteta to be tuning in and following this pae on the website, as for the first time ever, I'm going to track the Premier League Champions, based not on results but on XG.
Three points for a win, one for a draw, but results decided by XG during the game, instead of the ball hitting the front of the net.
Yes - the front of the net - quite clearly if it hits the 'back' of the hit it has missed the goal and rebounded of the advertising boards.
